The differential gene expression observed between normal neural stem cells and glioblastoma cancer stem cells is largely explained by copy number alterations. This indicates that the transcriptional differences between these two cell types are primarily driven by underlying chromosomal copy number changes rather than by other regulatory mechanisms.
